DOC Mandates

Dear Minister and advisors

Petition urging Department of Conservation to immediately end all discriminatory mandates which restrict access to DoC camping grounds and Great Walks

To the Minister of Conservation Kiri Allan and to Penny Nelson- Director General of Conservation kiri.allan@parliament.govt.nz pnelson@doc.govt.nz National Spokesperson for Conservation Jacqui.dean@parliament.govt.nz Eugenie.sage@parliament.govt.nz- Chair Environment Committee

I urge you to immediately end all mandates which block or restrict access to any campgrounds, Great Walks huts or any other resources or facilities managed for the public of New Zealand by the Department of Conservation.

The current discrimination is contrary to the fundamental rights and freedoms and human rights of New Zealanders. It is arbitrary, irrational, unfair and contrary to the public interest. It is clear that the PfizerVax does not prevent infection or transmission. This is proven by the rapid spread of Covid through fully vaccinated university students at hostels in Otago, Canterbury and Victoria.

Access to the outdoors is a cherished part of the New Zealand way of life and promotes physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

This arbitrary discrimination must end now.
